Preteens and Teenagers

Young people today are dealing with significantly higher rates of anxiety, depression and other mental health disorders. Isolation during the COVID pandemic, significant screen usage from young ages, social media, and increased academic pressures have been some of the contributing factors. Individual and family therapy can help preteens and teens with stress management, communication skills, building self-esteem, regulating emotions, finding interests and hobbies, becoming more engaged at school, increasing healthy connections with peers, and improving relationships with family members.

With all of the developmental changes and life challenges that preteens and teens contend with today, it is incredibly important to me to provide them with a safe space where they can feel heard, understood, supported and respected. I truly believe that these qualities must be present in the therapeutic relationship so that healthy growth and change can take place.

Couples Therapy

Couples seeking out therapy are often stuck in a problematic pattern of relating that can leave each person in the relationship feeling unhappy, angry and alone. Couples therapy can be very effective in helping people to identify attachment needs and longings, creating safe spaces in the relationship to be vulnerable so those needs and longings can be met, and in learning more effective ways to deal with and resolve conflict. I use various modalities of treatment in working with couples, including my training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). EFT is a structured approach to couples therapy formulated by Dr. Sue Johnson in the 1980’s. EFT was developed alongside the theory of adult attachment and bonding and has been used to expand our understanding of couple relationships.
